Over the past week I have been working a lot on my new full beat. I added in synthesizers, instruments, and all different kinds of tracks. My goal was to get closer to finishing the beat, and I have accomplished that. A lot of work still needs to be done, but the beat is coming out just the way I envisioned it. I faced a challenge this week and it was that I was unsure about how I wanted to create a transition between tracks. The way I had it at first made it so that it would just cut to the next track, rather than flowing into it like it was supposed to. I fixed this issue by decreasing the volume from the first track to the next one to give it an effect and make it sound smoother. This beat is coming out really good so far in my opinion, and I am on track to finish it within the next 2 weeks. Click read more to see a screenshot of me recording piano into my song.

This week I started working on a new sample beat. This beat was made in GarageBand using loops, which is one of the first things I learned how to do when I started music production. I am hoping that going back to this simple skill will help me be able to strengthen it and use it in new ways while I'm creating my full beat. I completed this sample beat and then also had time to make some progress on my full beat that I started last week and am trying to use everything I have learned so far to make it unique and my most advanced beat yet. I am super excited to see how it turns out because I think it sounds pretty good so far. A problem I encountered this week was figuring out how to use certain automations on my tracks and which ones sound best. It was a little difficult for me at first to understand what each one stood for and how they effect the track I am using it on. I overcame this problem by experimenting with them to figure out how they make different tracks sound. Once I was able to see which one did what, I was able to continue with the progress on my beat. This week I started a new beat. I am aiming for this beat to use all the tools I have figured out or learned how to use over these past months. Before I started this project, I knew almost nothing about music production and how to put together a song, but I have advanced so much since then. The skills I have learned from the internet, Mr. Harding, and random things I figured out how to do by myself, will all be incorporated into this full beat. So far, I have not. encountered any big challenges while making this beat, other than trying to figure out how I want it to sound and the style of music I want to create. I have used tools and skills such as joining and rearranging tracks, looping tracks, editing tracks, and. using my own instruments in this new beat so far. I think it sounds good so far, even though it is nowhere close to finished, but I am super excited to hear how the final product turns out! This week I accomplished my goal of finishing my holiday arrangement. I took jingle bells and remade it into a rock song. This was a very new and different style of music that I am glad I got to learn. I have never made a remix or arrangement before so I was a little nervous going into this project, but it turned out to be fun. An obstacle I faced this week was trying to make the song sound completely different than the original by slowing down the tempo in the middle of my song. It took me a really long time to figure it out, but Mr. Harding helped me figure it out and it turned out really good. I am excited I learned how to do this and plan to use this skill in future beats. Click read more to listen to my holiday arrangement.
This week I completed my goal of creating a new sample beat based off what I learned last week. The skill I taught myself last week was joining tracks together to make them one. I used this tactic this week to comprise a bunch of tracks together. This makes the song flow better, with less cuts between tracks. I love the way this sample turned out, and it might even be my favorite one that I have created yet. I did not face any challenges besides the usual trying to find sounds that work well together. I am very glad I learned how to use this tool on GarageBand because it will advance my music production skills even more and help me be able to use even more unique sounds. This week I worked on learning a new skill to add into my music production. The skill I chose was learning how to join tracks together to create a new track in order to be able to loop and cut it. I learned how to do this online from step by step instructions. Once I was able to do it on my own, I decided to make a new sample song using that skill. A challenge I faced this week was cutting the tracks at the exact perfect length in order for the sound to still flow and not sound like it was just chopped off and rearranged. I overcame this challenge by learning how to zoom in and be able to see the cut offs way more easily. Now instead of my music sounding choppy, it sounds like it flows perfect. I am excited to use this new tool in my next sample which I have just started today. Click read more to see a screenshot of me about to join the tracks together on my new sample beat.
This week I finally finished my full beat that I have been working on for weeks between other projects. I really like the way it came out and hope to start my next one soon. I was able to accomplish this goal by using everything I have learned from Mr. Harding, the internet, and myself. I loved being able to create something of my own, and this beat is definitely different than what music I usually listen to, but I. still think it tuned out great. A challenge I encountered this week was that I was unsure of how to end the song. I tried multiple endings, but decided on just fading it out because I thought that would sound the most natural. I am excited to share my work with others and get their feedback. Click read more to listen to my 1st final full beat project.
I have made a lot of progress on my full beat this past week and am almost finished. I used what I have learned from myself and my music teacher, Mr. Harding, to put this song together and add effects and arrange the tracks the way I wanted them to sound. I hope to finish next week and get to share it on my next blog. I did not face any challenges this week because I did not try and learn anything new, I just improved on what I already knew. This week I added automations to tracks, added some new tracks, and cut/rearrange tracks. I am excited for this beat to be finished because I have only ever made short sample clips of songs, never an actual long length one. This week I worked on my full song a lot. I wanted to hopefully finish it this week, but realized there is still a lot of work that needed to be done for it to be my best and most original song. I challenged I encountered was trying to figure out which automations I wanted to put on which tracks. Automations are tools you can use to make the track sound differently such as volume, ambience, reverb, and echo. I played around with these options for a while and finally chose what I thought would best suit each track. It was hard at first because I have never used this tool before so I had to teach myself how to use it, but once I figured it out I was very happy to now know a new skill I can use to advance my music production even more. I am hoping to be completely finished with this beat within the next 2 weeks. Click read more to see a screenshot of me learning about how to use automations and inserting one onto a track.
This week I really focused on my full song and doing anything I can to make it sound better and more original. I used instruments I played myself in the GarageBand software to add to the song. I really enjoyed being able to do this because before I was only able to use loops that other people made. Now, I can make my own drum beats and chords to any instrument all through using the keys on my laptop keyboard. A challenge I encountered this week was trying to figure out how to make the instruments sound good together by using the same chord progression. This was hard for me because I have never played an instrument besides the recorders we were required to play in 3rd grade. I did not know that there was a certain pattern to follow in order to make the song sound more organized. I overcame this when Mr. Harding taught me about chord progression and showed an example. After seeing how he did it, I was able to understand why there needs to be a pattern and how to create my own. I have not finished my full song yet, but I am getting closer and closer every day. I want to make sure it is the best work I can do. Click read more to see a screenshot of the progress I have made on my full song.
